KHTS: Six Centurions Pick Up Foothill League Honors
Six Saugus Centurions were honored alongside the Foothill League's Player and Pitcher of the Year as recipients of 2019 All-Foothill League players. Seniors Bobby Garcia, Hewitt Grissom and Nolan Kutcher received first team honors, while seniors Jarrett Farmer and Tony Jacob received second team honors. The Signal: Saugus Wins Pitching Duel to Advance to Quarter Final Game
Behind another strong pitching performance, this time by senior Tony Jacob, the Centurions were able to escape Paraclete High School with a win, knocking off the No. 1 Spirits with a 2-1 victory. Jacob's performance was followed by outstanding innings pitched by Brandyn Cruz and Cole Gallagher, and some incredible defensive plays that kept the Saugus' playoff hopes alive. The Signal: Ramirez's Dramatic Home run Lifts saugus over downey
With one swing of the bat, the Centurions dashed the Vikings' hopes and registered their most exciting win of the season on Tuesday afternoon. Bobby Garcia gave Saugus another outstanding effort, turning in 7 2/3 innings of work, striking out four while limiting the Vikings to just three hits. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, the season came down to Anthony Ramirez. Down to his final strike, Ramirez returned the 1-2 fastball over the left-center field wall, hitting a walk-off shot to lift the Saugus baseball team to a 3-2 victory to win the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 wild-card game at Sproul Filed. Cents Clinch Playoff Birth With Win Over Canyon
Cole Gallagher pitched one of his best games of the year and the Centurion offense gave him plenty of run support as the Centurions defeated crosstown rival Canyon Cowboys 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Canyon High School. Nolan Kutcher played a key role in the victory, belting a two run blast that helped seal the ballgame. With the win, Saugus will return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, when the Centurions lost a close 3-2 game to Hart High School in the C.I.F. Behind five strong innings from Senior Cole Gallagher, the Centurions bested the Indians in Thursday's afternoon match-up by a score of 8-5. Senior Nolan Kutcher set the tone for the offense, tallying two hits, one of them a two-run shot, while driving in three runs. Senior Jarrett Farmer contributed with two hits, while Senior Hewitt Grissom and Sophmore Colton Fitzgerald each tallied an RBI a piece.
